About Us

Do you ever feel like you have no idea what’s going on in the world? Are bored to death at your school/job? Are you looking to get more involved in the Saga community? Are you looking to do some thing that makes you get a warm fuzzy feeling? Well, then come on and hop on the Amnesty bandwagon!!!

This group is open to anyone in Saga, or anyone anywhere who wants to learn more about human rights issues in Japan and the world. Working under the Amnesty International’s mandate, the purpose of this group is to educate ourselves and use this knowledge to create awareness about human rights violations.

There is a lot going on around the world, but there is also many human rights issues in Japan. For example, the death penalty is still exercised in Japan despite worldwide outcry. Also, did you know some high school students in Japan are forbidden to write anything on the internet, such as blogs? There are many other issues, but those are just a few.

At the monthly meetings, we will have movie nights, guests speakers, letter writing sessions, fundraising meetings, developing lesson plans/activites that touch on human rights issues, and much much more interesting stuff.

Our group meets the first Friday of every month, but this could change. A regular meeting location is yet to be determined. Even if you don’t think you can come to every meeting, drop by anyways. We look forward to seeing you!!!
